Glycaemic Burden

The Glycaemic Burden indicates how heavy a demand food makes on the insulin system.  In contrast to the Glycaemic Index, the Glycaemic Burden takes into consideration the amount of carbohydrates contained in the food.  The Glycaemic Index indicates how quickly carbohydrates are drawn from the intestine to the blood and so cause a higher insulin secretion.  A higher insulin reflection favors insulin resistance and thereby the formation of many diseases of civilization.  A higher Glycaemic Index is nonetheless relatively meaningless when the foods under consideration contain only a few carbohydrates.
The following illnesses are benefited by an insulin resistance:

  • Diabetes mellitus Type II
  • Diabetes mellitus Type III with an elevated risk for M.Alzheimer, M.Parkinson, fatigue
  • Overweight
  • Cancer
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome
  • Arteriosclerosis with risk for cardiac infarction and stroke
  • High blood pressure
  • Potency disorders
